Roofing questions, answered plainly
The questions Charlotte homeowners ask us most, from licences and permits to what happens when we find soft decking.
Are your roofers licensed?
Roofing in North Carolina is licensed by the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors under its specialty classification, and a licence is required once a job reaches the state's dollar threshold. Jobs that need a licence go to roofers who hold one. All roofers we send carry liability insurance.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. Roof replacements in Charlotte and the rest of Mecklenburg County need a building permit through LUESA, and the roofer applies for it. Outside Mecklenburg and in South Carolina, we follow the local office's rules.
How much does a new roof cost in Charlotte?
For a typical house with architectural shingles, many replacements fall somewhere around $11,000 to $19,000 in 2026, with size, pitch, layers and decking moving the number. See the cost guide; your real price comes in writing after an inspection.
Can you just repair my roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the damage is in one area and the rest of the roof has life left, a repair is the right call and we'll tell you so.
How long does a replacement take?
One to three working days for most homes once the permit and materials are in place.
Do you put new shingles over old ones?
No. We tear off to the decking so we can check it and install new underlayment and flashing.
What if you find rotten wood under the shingles?
We show you and replace it at the per-sheet price already in your quote.
Do you help with insurance claims?
Yes: inspection, photo documentation, and meeting the adjuster if you want us there. Check your policy's wind and hail terms early.
Do you install metal roofs?
Yes, standing-seam metal for whole houses and for porches and accent roofs.
Do you work on flat roofs and commercial buildings?
Yes, with TPO and EPDM membrane systems, repairs and maintenance plans.
What areas do you cover?
Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Lake Norman towns, Concord, Union County, Gastonia, and Rock Hill and Fort Mill in South Carolina.
What happens when I call at night?
An automated assistant takes your details, overnight included, and a roofer calls you back the same day. Active leaks are called back first.
Do you offer financing?
Payment options are covered on the financing page.
Is my home in a historic district?
If you're in a designated historic district, a roofing change may need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Landmarks Commission. We check before work starts.
